Light and Colour in Kerala
After a long time, I am starting my blog again.

Aatma AyurVedic Centre Kerala
This last month I have been staying at a very beautiful Ayurveda Centre in rural Kerala - "Aaatma" run by a traditional family of Ashtavaidyas whose deep knowledge of Ayurveda has been handed down over many generations.
I brought some art supplies with me and made some sketches.
Here are some of the sketches I made in pastel watercolour, gouache, oil pastels and water-soluble oil paints
I hope to make paintings from them when I get back to the studio.
I was very inspired by the gorgeous quality of light particularly around sunset and sunrise when everything seems to glow from within.

The morning light through the palm trees
About A4 size on gessoed paper in Water-soluble oil paints with oil pastels
Another morning light waterbased oil paints with oil pastels on gessoed paper about A4

A5 size water based oil paint on gessoed paper. Sunlight through the plants on the path between the buildings.

Pastel on paper in A5 sketchbook. View from my window across the fields with more palm trees in the distance.

Another small A5 sketch book image in pastel and water colour

Oil pastels on paper about 8 inchesx 8 inches -Oil pastels create very saturated colour and convey the richness of the light

Another Oil pastel sketch of the view from my room with cow grazing in the field very peaceful scene towards evening
